Welcome to Penang: Your Gateway to Asia
Penang is one of practically the most connected hubs in Malaysia. Whether you arrive by air, land, or sea, your journey here is part of the adventure.
By Air: Penang International Airport (PEN)
Located in Bayan Lepas, the airport is a busy hub with direct flights from major regional cities including Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh City, and Doha.
Student Tip: The airport is connected to the city by Rapid Penang bus lines (401, 401E, 102) which are extremely affordable, or you can take a Grab car directly to your accommodation for RM 20-40 depending on distance.
Kuala Lumpur: 50 mins
Singapore: 1 hr 20 mins
Bangkok: 1 hr 45 mins
By Train: The Scenic ETS Route
For a scenic and comfortable journey, take the KTM Electric Train Service (ETS) to Butterworth Station (Penang Sentral). The train connects directly to Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral) in about 4 hours.
Why students love it: It's spacious, has onboard WiFi, and offers a cafe. Plus, the view of the Malaysian countryside is beautiful. From Butterworth, you can simply hop on the ferry to cross over to the island!
